One of the best definitions of the word 'Raga' comes from Sanskrit: ‘raga’ is ‘Ranjayati Iti Raga’, meaning 'That which pleases the ear is referred to as a raga.' It’s that simple.

There is a scientific foundation to all music genres, whether Western, Asian, or from any corner of the globe. The roots of Hindustani/Carnatic (South Asian) music can be traced back hundreds or even thousands of years, with references found in ancient texts.
